What the Frack?

I live in upstate New York and around here the natural gas companies are buying up land leases so they can extract gas from the land. By itself that is not a big deal. In fact it means that land owners can make some money.

The problem is that the gas companies (and oil companies in some areas) are using a process called hydraulic fracturing to speed up the extraction of the gas and oil. This involved pumping water and various chemicals at high pressure into the ground. The result is that ground water in some areas is getting contaminated by the chemicals, and in some areas the gas is leaking out into the ground water.

People are turning on their water taps and natural gas is coming out with the water. So much gas that they can light it on fire. Flames and combustible gas coming out of the kitchen faucet is not a good thing. And since the gas has not had additional odors added to it, like domestic distributed gas does, it can be undetectable as it builds up to dangerous levels in the house.

To protest this practice of hydraulic fracturing, also known as "fracking", I designed a series of shirts with some designs that include flames coming out of a water faucet and the phrases "What the Frack??", "No Fracking Way!!", and "Frack This!!!".  In small print below the main graphic it says "STOP hydraulic fracturing for gas and oil wells!!"

They are all available in a number of different styles and sizes, besides the ones shown below.

What the Frack?? No Fracking Way!! Frack This!!!
